Donald Trump says US forces are clearing Strait of Hormuz

11 April, 2026 20:03

Washington, D.C. – US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that the US military has begun operations to clear the Strait of Hormuz and claimed that Iranian naval assets have been destroyed.

In a social media post on Truth Social, he wrote, “We’re now starting the process of clearing out the Strait of Hormuz,” and added that “all 28” of Iran’s “mine dropper boats are also lying at the bottom of the sea”.

Shortly before his statement, reports emerged about US naval ships operating in the Strait of Hormuz. An Axios journalist, quoting a US official, said that several American ships had crossed the waterway. However, Iranian state media later reported that an Iranian military official denied these claims.

Trump has repeatedly stated that US forces have destroyed Iran’s navy and air force and damaged its missile and nuclear programs.

Tensions in the region remain high, with fears of Iranian attacks on shipping in recent weeks. This situation has effectively disrupted movement through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil supplies, causing pressure on international energy markets.

As a result, US gasoline prices have increased, even though most oil passing through the strait is not directly used by the United States.

Meanwhile, diplomatic talks between the US and Iran have started in Islamabad, hosted by Pakistan, as efforts continue to maintain a fragile ceasefire in the region.
