Security of Strait of Hormuz Is Not Free, Says Iran’s First Vice President

20 April, 2026 10:20

Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref has issued a strong warning regarding the Strait of Hormuz, saying that the security of this vital global shipping route cannot be expected without fairness toward Iran.

In a message shared on X, Aref stated that the “security of the Strait of Hormuz is not free” and made it clear that Iran cannot be denied its oil export rights while other countries continue to enjoy secure maritime trade without consequences.

He said that restricting Iran’s oil exports while expecting smooth and safe passage for global oil shipments is not a realistic expectation. According to him, the international community must choose between allowing a free oil market for everyone or facing serious economic costs.

Aref explained that the choice is simple: either all countries benefit equally from free oil trade, or the world must prepare for major disruptions and rising costs in the energy market.

He further stressed that stability in global fuel prices depends on a guaranteed and lasting end to both economic and military pressure against Iran and its regional allies.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, with a significant portion of global crude oil shipments passing through it every day. Any tension in this area quickly impacts international oil prices and market confidence.

Iran has repeatedly argued that economic sanctions and restrictions on its oil exports create imbalance and unfair pressure. Officials believe that if Iran’s access to global oil markets is blocked, the wider region and international energy supply chain will also face consequences.

Mohammad Reza Aref’s latest statement reflects Tehran’s continued position that peace and stability in the region require equal treatment, economic fairness, and an end to policies that target Iran’s economy.

As global attention remains focused on the Strait of Hormuz, investors and governments are closely watching every development that could affect fuel prices, shipping routes, and regional security.
