US-Iran Tensions Escalate as New Strikes Follow Trump’s Hormuz Denial

According to reports, the US military launched new strikes against an Iranian drone operation in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming it endangered American forces and merchant shipping. According to a US official, that the military intercepted four Iranian drones and struck a Bandar Abbas ground control station preparing an additional drone launch.

The official described the operation as the strikes were carried out as a defensive step to safeguard US forces and keep the April ceasefire intact though Iran dismissed it as a breach of the deal. Media in Iran said a US oil tanker was turned back after warning shots were fired, while subsequent US strikes led to no casualties.

Reports of uncertain clashes over the Strait of Hormuz, an important international shipping passage. The US president, Donald Trump, against claims of a reopening deal, and stated that it would not be controlled by any country.

Crude oil prices rebounded after news of fresh strikes, reversing earlier losses recorded in the week.

Concurrently, both sides are still swapping blame as diplomatic efforts show no clear growth.
