Trump open to meeting Iran’s Supreme Leader after peace deal
WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said that if Iran kills American soldiers, it would be a major reason for the conflict to resume. However, he also said he is willing to meet Iran’s new supreme leader if a lasting peace agreement is reached.
Speaking to journalists, Trump said that any attack resulting in the deaths of US troops would be a strong and reasonable cause for the war to start again.
He added that if both sides reach a permanent agreement to end the current conflict, he would be open to meeting Iran’s new supreme leader.
Trump said he is not personally eager for such a meeting, but if it takes place, he would consider it an honor.
The US president explained that he wants to see whether a peace deal is possible and believes there is nothing wrong with meeting the Iranian leader if it helps achieve that goal.
He also said that if a meeting with Iran’s supreme leader takes place, he would show great respect during the talks.
Trump acknowledged that he is probably not the Iranian leader’s favorite person, but said he views him as a professional figure with a strong reputation in some circles.
