Pakistan Mediates US-Iran Talks as Naqvi Meets Araghchi in Tehran with PM’s Letter

07 June, 2026 16:57

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has personally conveyed a special message from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei, during his ongoing diplomatic visit to Tehran.

The message was formally handed over in the course of a meeting between Minister Naqvi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, held in the Iranian capital on Sunday. The two senior officials used the occasion to review the current state of bilateral relations between Tehran and Islamabad, covering issues of shared concern and mutual strategic interest.

Discussions also extended to the broader regional landscape, with both sides exchanging perspectives on the latest developments surrounding ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing an end to what Tehran describes as the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran — an area in which Pakistan has emerged as an active mediator.

The Sunday meeting followed a separate engagement on Saturday, when Naqvi met his Iranian counterpart, Interior Minister Eskandar Mo’meni. Following those talks, Mo’meni indicated that part of Naqvi’s visit was dedicated to bilateral matters, noting that the discussions covered border security cooperation, joint efforts to combat drug trafficking, and coordinated measures against terrorism. Mo’meni further noted that the two sides “also reached important understandings in the economic field.”

Minister Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Saturday specifically to hold talks with senior Iranian officials, with his visit widely seen as an extension of Islamabad’s active mediation efforts between Iran and the United States at a delicate moment in regional diplomacy.
