Protests Erupt Across Lebanon Over Reported US-Backed Framework Agreement

Thousands of people took to the streets in several Lebanese cities and towns on Friday night to protest a reported U.S.-backed framework agreement between the Lebanese government and Israel. Demonstrators described the proposed arrangement as a threat to Lebanon’s sovereignty and voiced opposition to any steps toward direct negotiations with Israel.

Protests were held in the capital, Beirut, including in the Ramlet al-Bayda area near government headquarters, as well as in other neighborhoods across the country. Protesters carried banners and chanted slogans rejecting the reported agreement, expressing concern over its potential political and security implications.

The demonstrations followed the government’s announcement of the U.S.-supported framework, which has sparked debate within Lebanon. Supporters and critics continue to differ over the proposal’s implications for national sovereignty, regional security, and future relations with Israel, while authorities have not announced any changes to the reported agreement.
