Pakistan Urges UN Security Council to End Israeli Occupation of Palestinian Territories

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, has urged the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take decisive steps toward ending the Israeli occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT). Addressing a UNSC meeting on the situation in the Middle East, including Palestine, he said that ending the occupation remains the ultimate goal for achieving lasting peace in the region.
Ambassador Ahmad reiterated Pakistan’s support for the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and contiguous State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. He described the two-state solution as the only viable path to ensuring long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.
Calling for stronger action by the Security Council, Ahmad urged the UNSC to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the situation across the occupied Palestinian territories and address the key obstacles to peace. He also called on the council to compel Israel to immediately and completely halt all settlement activities, describing them as a clear violation of international law.
