Araghchi Reaches Muscat for Discussions on Strait of Hormuz and Regional Affairs
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Muscat with a diplomatic delegation to hold talks with Omani officials on the management of the Strait of Hormuz, regional issues, and relations between the two countries.
Omani officials welcomed Araghchi on Saturday as he started his visit aimed at continuing discussions between Tehran and Muscat on maritime cooperation and regional security.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the visit is part of consultations that began two months ago regarding the Strait of Hormuz. He said the waterway was a major issue included in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that helped end the recent conflict.
Baghaei said Iran has taken responsibility under the agreement to help restore normal operations in the Strait of Hormuz, including providing necessary maritime services for commercial ships. He added that Tehran is committed to fulfilling its commitments.
Iran and Oman have agreed to work together on implementing the arrangements. Several technical meetings have already taken place in Tehran and Muscat, while Araghchi’s visit is expected to further these discussions and support the safe movement of ships through the important maritime route.
The visit follows recent talks in Doha, where an Iranian technical delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi met with Qatari and Pakistani mediators on July 1 to discuss the implementation of the Islamabad memorandum aimed at ending the war.
Meanwhile, a US delegation led by presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner also held separate meetings in Doha with Qatari leadership to discuss regional developments.
