Iranian Forces Retaliate After US Strikes on Southern Infrastructure

17 July, 2026 20:17

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says it has launched a new wave of retaliatory strikes against US targets across West Asia.

In a statement, the IRGC said its Aerospace Force targeted a US special operations command center in Syria, American radar sites in Oman, and weapons depots and launchers in Kuwait.

The IRGC claimed that the attacks destroyed a radar system, several special operations helicopters, and killed a large number of US troops. These claims have not been independently verified.

Iran said the operation was carried out in response to the deaths of seven Iranian soldiers who were killed in what it described as a US airstrike on an Iranian military base near Iranshahr on Wednesday.

The IRGC also said, “Our brave fighters remain in full control of the Strait of Hormuz. As long as the United States persists in its acts of mischief, not a single drop of oil or gas will be permitted to be exported from the region.”

In a separate statement, the IRGC said it also struck US missile defence radar systems, weapons depots, and HIMARS launchers in Kuwait, causing a large fire at a base hosting US forces.

Later, the IRGC claimed it destroyed US naval and air surveillance radar systems in Oman.

The group also accused the United States of attacking civilian facilities, including telecommunications and railway infrastructure, and said Iran’s retaliatory operations would continue.

According to the report, the United States and Iran had earlier signed a Pakistan-brokered Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to end hostilities, but the IRGC claimed Washington violated the agreement, leading to Iran’s latest response.
