An Iranian military spokesperson has said that Iran will continue to maintain its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz and will not compromise on control of the strategic waterway.
Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaqari, spokesperson for the Iranian Armed Forces and representative of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said the situation in the Strait of Hormuz is no longer the same as before.
He claimed that the United States is deeply concerned about Iran’s strong control over the strait and that this is one reason for increased US military involvement in the region.
The spokesperson also blamed the United States for instability in the Persian Gulf, saying Washington is deliberately creating tensions to strengthen its position and promote arms sales.
He urged neighboring Gulf countries not to allow the United States to use their territory or military bases for attacks against Iran.
According to Zolfaqari, lasting peace and collective security in the region can only be achieved through cooperation with Iran. He added that if US military involvement ends, regional countries can live together peacefully.
