Taliban Regime’s Dark Era: Gender Discrimination Against Afghan Women Made State Policy

The occupying Taliban regime has turned Afghanistan into a safe haven for terrorists while making it a prison for Afghan women, stripping them of basic human rights and any opportunity for a dignified life.

According to British magazine The New World, the illegitimate Afghan Taliban regime is pursuing a state-level policy aimed at erasing women’s existence from public life. Since 2021, the magazine reports, girls’ education beyond sixth grade has been banned, and women’s right to work has been severely restricted.

The magazine further reports that after 2023, the proportion of women in government jobs fell from 21% to 17.7%. It cites United Nations warnings that a shortage of trained professional women will damage children’s education, health outcomes, and future opportunities across the country.

Due to the exclusion of women from public and economic life, the magazine reports Afghanistan is suffering an annual economic loss of $84 million, a figure expected to grow further under current policies.

Afghan taekwondo athlete and human rights leader Marzia Hamidi said the Taliban regime has erased women from public life, banned their education, and turned discriminatory treatment into formal state policy. She said the regime is close to realizing a vision of society in which women are completely excluded from public life altogether.
