Reports emerged on Saturday of explosions in Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, with several media outlets claiming that a U.S. military base near Erbil International Airport was targeted. According to a security source cited by local media, air defense systems intercepted and shot down a drone near Erbil. The source told Shafaq News that the drone was brought down by air defenses protecting the U.S. Consulate in the city, although no official statement has been issued by U.S. or Iraqi authorities confirming the claim.
