Iran Men’s and Women’s Kabaddi Teams Learn Asian Games Group Stage Opponents

Iran’s men’s and women’s kabaddi teams have discovered their group-stage opponents for the 20th Asian Games, set to be held in Nagoya, Japan, from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4. The men’s team has been drawn in Group B alongside Pakistan, while Group A features India, Bangladesh, South Korea, Chinese Taipei, and Japan. Iran will aim to strengthen its reputation as one of Asia’s leading kabaddi nations, with Pakistan expected to be its toughest rival in the group stage before a potential knockout clash with traditional powerhouse India.

Iran’s women’s team faces a far more challenging path after being placed in Group A with hosts Japan, Bangladesh, and defending champions India. Group B comprises Sri Lanka, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, and Nepal. The draw means every group-stage match will be crucial for Iran, with India considered the tournament favorite and Japan expected to benefit from home support.

The 20th Asian Games will bring together more than 12,000 athletes from 45 countries competing across a wide range of sports. Iran is scheduled to send a delegation of 282 athletes to participate in 39 disciplines as it seeks to improve its medal tally at the continental event.
