Iranian Lawmakers Draft Bill to Counter Possible UK IRGC Terrorist Designation

An Iranian lawmaker has announced the submission of a draft bill that would authorize reciprocal measures if the United Kingdom formally designates the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. Hossein Ali Hajideligani said the proposed legislation, titled “The Law on Reciprocal Action against the Designation of the IRGC as a Terrorist Organization by the British Government,” has been submitted to the Iranian Parliament’s presiding board.

Hajideligani said the draft legislation contains 11 articles and has been prepared in response to London’s reported decision to place the IRGC on its terrorist list. He stated that the bill would be immediately advanced through the legislative process if the British government proceeds with what he described as a “miscalculated” move, warning that such a decision would have consequences for regional stability.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the reported British decision, calling it politically motivated and contrary to international law. The ministry stressed that the IRGC is an official component of Iran’s Armed Forces and operates alongside the country’s regular Army to safeguard Iran’s independence, territorial integrity, and national security.
