Israeli Offensive Continues in Southern Lebanon With Airstrikes and Burning Homes

BEIRUT: Israeli forces have reportedly destroyed and burned homes in several areas of southern Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency.

The agency reported that Israeli forces carried out demolitions and set fire to houses in the towns of Majdal Zoun and Mansouri, as well as nearby valleys.

The BBC, citing Lebanon’s National News Agency, reported that Israeli warplanes carried out two airstrikes on Mansouri. Explosions were also reported in the city of Tyre.

Last week, the Israeli military issued evacuation orders to residents of Mansouri.

During a recent visit to southern Lebanon, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz stressed the need for Israeli forces to remain in the area. He said Israeli forces were demolishing houses in the region.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, however, said the systematic destruction of homes by Israel was a violation of international law.

Meanwhile, the US State Department said it hoped Israel would respect the US-brokered agreement that requires Israeli forces to withdraw from southern Lebanon.

The US also reaffirmed its full support for Lebanon’s territorial integrity.
