Trump Administration Has No Immediate Plans for New Strikes on Iran: US Media

WASHINGTON: The Trump administration has no immediate plans to launch new military strikes against Iran and is instead focusing on increasing economic pressure on Tehran, according to US news website Axios.

According to the report, Washington is currently prioritising additional economic sanctions as part of its strategy to pressure Iran rather than preparing for an immediate new military operation.

The report said that efforts to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz, along with increased maritime traffic, have reduced some of the pressure on Iran and improved the movement of vessels through the strategic waterway.

The United States is also seeking to ensure that maximum possible quantities of oil can pass through the Strait of Hormuz and reach international markets, according to the report.

Meanwhile, Iran’s oil exports have been severely disrupted amid the maritime blockade, putting further pressure on the country’s economy.

US officials said Washington is currently concentrating on increasing pressure on Tehran, while negotiations are not the immediate focus of the Trump administration.

The latest developments come amid continued tensions between Washington and Tehran, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a key point of concern for global energy supplies and international shipping.
