Iran Signals Conditions for Reopening Strait of Hormuz

28 August, 2026 09:38

TEHRAN: Iran has indicated that it is preparing a list of conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, with an end to the ongoing regional war among the key demands.

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei said mediators had asked Tehran to clearly present its conditions for restoring normal maritime traffic through the strategic waterway.

Rezaei said Iran had also reached an agreement with Oman on a designated shipping corridor for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Under the proposed arrangement, part of the corridor would pass through Omani waters while another section would pass through Iranian waters.

Speaking to Al Manar TV through an interpreter, Rezaei said commercial vessels could use the designated central shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz if the United States agrees to meet Iran’s conditions.

He said the proposed arrangements were aimed at establishing a framework for maritime traffic while addressing Iran’s security and political concerns.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global energy route, and any prolonged disruption to shipping through the waterway could have significant implications for international trade and energy markets.
