Global Crackdown Tightens Around Afghans Involved in Illegal Activities

04 September, 2026 14:48

Afghan migrants involved in serious crimes and living illegally are becoming a growing security and administrative challenge for host countries.

According to Afghan media outlet Khaama Press, more than 25,000 undocumented Afghan nationals were arrested in Turkey during the first eight months of this year.

Around 95,000 undocumented migrants were detained in Turkey between January and August, with Afghan nationals making up the largest group, according to Afghan media reports.

Turkish authorities said the detained Afghans did not have valid residence documents.

According to the United Nations, more than 13,000 Afghan nationals were deported from Turkey during the first five months of 2026, Afghan media reported.

Experts say Afghanistan’s difficult economic situation under the Taliban has forced thousands of Afghans to seek better opportunities abroad, with some entering other countries illegally.

They added that undocumented migrants involved in serious crimes have created significant security concerns for host countries.
