Anti-Taliban Armed Resistance Intensifies Across Afghanistan

11 September, 2026 19:31

Armed resistance against the Afghan Taliban has intensified in 2026, with opposition groups increasing pressure on the regime from several fronts.

The growing attacks by anti-Taliban groups have raised questions about the Taliban’s claims of having complete control over Afghanistan.

According to Afghan publication Hasht-e Subh, the National Resistance Front, Freedom Front and United Front claimed 73 attacks from July to September 1.

Other groups, including the Homeland Soldiers Front, National Mobilization Front, Freedom Movement and Freedom and Justice Movement, also claimed attacks against the Taliban, the publication reported.

Hasht-e Subh said the opposition groups are trying to increase pressure on the Taliban, influence international opinion, strengthen their supplies and benefit from regional and global competition.

Afghan media reported that declining public support for the Taliban and growing internal differences have further strengthened opposition groups.

The expansion of anti-Taliban groups in 2026 is also being linked to growing internal grievances, according to Hasht-e Subh.
