Iranian Commander Claims Full Control of Strait of Hormuz, Says No One Will Be Allowed Through

A senior Iranian military commander says Iranian forces have full control over the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, warning that the country is prepared to confront any potential threat in the strategic waterway.

Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, deputy coordinator of the Iranian Army, said the western section of the Strait of Hormuz, the strait itself and the Persian Gulf were under the control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.

According to Sayyari, Iran’s regular navy controls the eastern section of the Strait of Hormuz as well as areas extending into the northern Indian Ocean.

He said Iranian forces also maintain a strong military presence in the northern part of the Gulf of Oman and east of the Strait of Hormuz.

Sayyari said Iran’s armed forces were fully prepared to respond to any potential threat and would not allow hostile forces to dictate conditions in the region.

The Iranian commander also said military conflicts provide armed forces with new experience and lessons that can be used to improve their capabilities.

He said Iranian forces had identified weaknesses from previous confrontations and were working to address them, adding that the military was now better prepared to respond to future threats.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, with the Strait of Hormuz emerging as a major point of dispute.

Iran has linked the reopening of the strategic waterway to conditions including a reduction in U.S. military pressure. At the same time, Washington has rejected Tehran’s assertion that it has complete control over the strait.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy corridors, making any disruption to shipping through the waterway a major concern for international energy markets and global trade.

The latest exchange of statements between Iranian and U.S. officials comes as diplomatic efforts continue over a possible ceasefire, negotiations and the future status of the strategically important waterway.
