Iran Says Decision on Deal Now Rests With US
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh has said that the decision on whether to reach an agreement now rests with the United States.
Speaking to Russian television, Khatibzadeh said Iran had given its initial response to the US reply to Tehran’s proposals. He said Iran had presented its proposals to the US through mediators, including Qatar and Pakistan.
Khatibzadeh said Tehran does not trust Washington and has many reasons not to trust the current US administration. He said Iran wants concrete guarantees for a ceasefire on all fronts.
He said Iran’s proposals also include guarantees for the release of frozen assets and an end to the naval and economic blockade.
Khatibzadeh added that Iran could reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the United States fulfils all of its commitments.
