Israel-Bound Flight Hijacking Attempt Sparks Trump’s Accusation Against Iran

02 October, 2026 08:34

US President Donald Trump has suggested that Iran may be linked to the Omani co-pilot accused of attacking the captain and attempting to take control of a Flydubai flight bound for Israel.

Speaking to reporters, Trump was asked whether the co-pilot had links to Iran. He said the matter was still being investigated but indicated that, based on the information available to him, the answer could be yes.

Trump also said Israel and the United Arab Emirates were cooperating with the United States over the investigation.

When asked whether the co-pilot had been deliberately sent by Iran or trained by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Trump gave a more cautious response, saying that possibility could not be ruled out.

The incident occurred on a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv on September 30. The co-pilot allegedly attacked the captain and the aircraft went into a sharp descent before passengers and crew members intervened. The plane was diverted and landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also discussed a possible Iranian connection but has said it is too early to determine whether Tehran was involved. Investigations by Israeli, Emirati and Saudi authorities are continuing, while the motive of the co-pilot remains under investigation.

Trump previously said he was relying substantially on information provided by Netanyahu and others and acknowledged that he did not know whether all the details he had been given were accurate.

No evidence establishing an Iranian role in the incident has been publicly presented so far.
