UK Advises Against Non-Essential Travel to Parts of Saudi Arabia Amid Security Threats

LONDON: The United Kingdom has updated its travel advice for Saudi Arabia, advising British nationals against all but essential travel to several areas amid heightened regional security concerns.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has extended its advice to cover Aseer, Riyadh, Najran and Jizan provinces, as well as Taif city and Taif International Airport. It continues to advise against all travel within 10 kilometres of the Saudi-Yemen border.
The advisory comes amid renewed security concerns following missile and drone attacks targeting locations across Saudi Arabia, including cities, airports, military facilities and energy infrastructure.
Saudi Civil Defence has said that the interception of a ballistic missile over Riyadh resulted in falling debris that damaged a children’s nursery and a medical complex.
The Houthi militia has also claimed that it targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh with a ballistic missile. The circumstances of the reported attack and the extent of the damage should be assessed against official Saudi statements and independently verified information.
The UK government has warned that the security situation could deteriorate further and that airports near the Saudi-Yemen border may face temporary closures. British travellers have been advised to check with airlines before travelling to affected airports.
The FCDO has also cautioned that travel against its official advice could affect the validity of travel insurance.
The updated guidance reflects concerns about the potential impact of continuing regional hostilities on civilian safety and air travel.
