Iran Says Strait of Hormuz Will Fully Reopen Only After US Withdrawal From Region

Iran has linked the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to the withdrawal of US forces from the region, warning that American troops would be forced out if Washington refused to leave.
Iranian military spokesperson Mohammad Akrami Nia outlined the position in a message posted on the social media platform X.
He stated that the waterway could reopen fully if the United States withdrew its forces. Under that scenario, regional countries could establish collective security arrangements and help improve conditions for the global economy.
The spokesperson warned that Iran would take action to remove US forces if they remained in the region. He also blamed Washington for instability in the eastern part of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has urged shipowners to use routes designated by its armed forces when navigating the strategic waterway, placing further emphasis on compliance with Tehran’s maritime instructions.
The statements highlight the connection Iran is drawing between maritime access, regional security and the presence of foreign military forces.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for international energy shipments, linking the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman. Restrictions on commercial navigation through the passage can affect oil supplies, shipping operations and international markets.
Iran’s announcement does not, by itself, establish when the waterway will reopen or whether a broader agreement with the United States is possible. The practical arrangements for commercial shipping remain dependent on developments in the region.
