UAE Announces Eid-ul-Fitr 2025 Holidays

The UAE government has officially released the Eid ul Fitr holiday schedule for public sector employees across the nation.

According to the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, the holiday period will commence on Shawwal 1 and conclude on Shawwal 3, 1446 AH, in alignment with the Islamic calendar. Regular work operations will resume on Shawwal 4.

As per Islamic tradition, the sighting of the crescent moon determines the precise date of Eid. The UAE’s Moon sighting committee is set to observe the sky on March 29. Since Islamic months vary between 29 and 30 days, the official Eid date hinges on this celestial observation.

Holiday Duration Based on Moon Sighting

1. If the crescent is spotted on March 29, Eid Al Fitr will be observed on Sunday, March 30, granting government employees a four-day holiday from March 29 to April 1, as Saturday is already a designated weekend for most workers.

2. If the Moon remains unseen on March 29, Ramadan will extend to a full 30 days, shifting Eid to Monday, March 31. This scenario would provide a five-day holiday from March 29 to April 2.

Extended Holidays for Sharjah Government Employees

In Sharjah, where public sector employees observe Fridays as a designated weekend, certain government workers may enjoy an even longer break:

• If Eid falls on Sunday, March 30 → Sharjah’s government employees will receive a five-day holiday from Friday, March 28, to Tuesday, April 1.
• If Eid is observed on Monday, March 31 → Employees will benefit from an extended six-day break, stretching from Friday, March 28, to Wednesday, April 2.
