Zardari, Erdogan discuss bilateral ties

President Asif Ali Zardari discussed bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest with his Turkish counterpart today.

Both the leaders held a telephonic conversation, the President’s House Press Wing said in a statement.

It added that the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest, with President Zardari stressing the need to further strengthening ties in various fields.

President Zardari expressed his best wishes to the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish people. He also extended an invitation to President Erdogan for a visit to Pakistan.

The president felicitated his Turkish counterpart on the upcoming occasion of Eidul Fitr.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had said that Pakistan and Turkiye need to work together to hit the annual target of $5 billion in bilateral trade.

The prime minister, during a meeting with Turkish Ambassador Mehmet Pacaci at the PM’s Office, called upon the two sides to enhance bilateral cooperation in all sectors including defence, trade,  connectivity and culture.

He said that Pakistan and Turkiye have consistently been supporting each other on the core issues and would continue to do so in the future.
