Webinar on Canada Silence on Indian Colonization of Kashmir held where Canadian MP Iqra Khalid, academics and peace activists called for end to Indian atrocities in IOJK – Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The event held under the aegis of the Canadian Foreign Policy Institute and twenty-five civil society organizations on the subject of “Canada’s Silence on India’s Colonization of Kashmir.”

Speakers called for resolution of Kashmir issue as per UN Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

Iqra Khalid, a member of House of Commons of Canada, expressed her deep concern for the ongoing conditions of the Kashmiris.

She lamented Kashmiris continue to face curfews with limited access to food supplies and communication.

She said the Canadian government is deeply concerned with escalation and detentions.

Moreover, the MP cited their Minister for Global Affairs met with Kashmiri Canadians to directly hear about their first-hand experiences and the plight of their families and loved ones stuck in the deplorable situation.

Iqra Khalid underlined it appropriate time for all parties in the international community to sit together to find a peaceful solution.

She called for settlement that preserves and protects the rights of the innocent Kashmiri people as shown by UNSC resolutions, one of which Canada co-sponsored.

Meanwhile, an elite panel of academics, authors and civil society activists also addressed the webinar.

They included noted attorney, author and entrepreneur Imraan Mir, Associate Professor at Ohio University Haley Duschinski, Associate Professor at the University of Toronto Malavika Kasturi, scholar Siddiq Wahid and legal academic and writer Azeezah Kanji.

The event offered an overview of the long-standing conflict in the light of international law.

Furthermore, they elaborated human rights situation and issues of impunity.

They also spoke on Hindu nationalism project and the colonization of Kashmir.
