Sheikh Rashid arrested upon bail being denied in May 9 case

Former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed was arrested today upon bail request being refused from an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in May 9 incidents.

Rashid Shafique (sheikh’s nephew) secured bail in all 13 cases related to the May 9 riots, however former minister succefully scored bail in 11 cases related to May 9 incidents but failed to obtain bail in only one ‘Metro bus station vandalism case’ resulting in his arrest.

The Awami Muslim League (AML) chief hinted yesterday to contest polls “from prison” even if he was arrested by police, when the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) reserved the verdict on bail application announced today.

 

Earlier, Rashid Rashid and his nephew’s interim bails were extended by the court ATC include the GHQ attack, the army museum attack, the intelligence agency office attack and setting a metro bus station on fire.
