Nepra approves massive hike in power tariff
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a massive Rs7.05 per unit price hike in electricity tariff on Tuesday.
The additional amount will be added to bills for the month of March, read the notification issued by Nepra.
The move is expected to impose a financial burden of approximately Rs56 billion on consumers, with the potential to rise to nearly Rs66 billion due to the 18% general sales tax (GST).
However, the price increase will not be applicable for lifeline consumers and K-electric consumers.
Electricity prices are impacted by fuel prices and a variety of other factors in Pakistan. The prices are also a key driver for inflation as they increase the cost of production for industries.
