‘Non-filers can’t travel to London, Paris, Thailand’

14 June, 2024 10:09

Non-filers will not be able to visit London, Paris and Thailand without a National Tax Number and only Umrah and Hajj will be allowed.

The federal government proposed a ban on foreign travel of non-filers in the budget. The chairman of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) said that those who do not submit tax returns will not be able to travel abroad.

However, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb while speaking in the Senate Standing Committee on Finance said that without National Tax Number they will not be able to go to London, Paris and Thailand as non-filers will only be allowed to go for Umrah and Hajj.

The minister said that the innovation of non-filers is not understood and we have to end the term of non-filers.  End-to-end digitization of tax will be done and tax base has to be increased as the country cannot run on 9.5 per cent tax to GDP rate, he added.

It should be noted that the federal government presented a budget of more than Rs18.9 trillion in the National Assembly for the next financial year 2024-25, containing a deficit of Rs85 trillion.
