Five Indian soldiers injured in gunfight in IIOJK
Five Indian soldiers were injured in an exchange of fire with the Kashmir freedom fighters in the frontier district of Kupwara on Saturday morning.
According to Indian media, the injured soldiers have been moved to Srinagar for treatment.
The clash comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowed to give “enemy will be given a forceful response” in Kargil.
Forces detected movement of suspected Kashmir freedom fighter near Kumkari post on the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of Kupwara, the Indian Express citing official sources confirmed.
In the initial exchange, the freedom fighters injured three Indian troops, the Indian outlet report. They were immediately evacuated and shifted to hospital.
Sources say the injured soldiers were later shifted to the Army’s 92 Base hospital in Srinagar. A senior police officer confirmed the injuries.
“This is preliminary information. It takes time to gather information from the area because of it being close to the Line of Control,” he said.
