Vitamins are considered to be a treasure of health but too much of anything can be harmful for you.

A study conducted by scientists has stated that excess of vitamin called folate (B9) causes harm to any person and those who use less of it can live longer.

The research, published in the Life Science Alliance, was conducted by scientists at the Texas A&M Agri-Life Research Agency.

The role of folate on health

Scientists say that a diet low in folate is associated with a healthy metabolism. The vitamin plays a role in red blood cell formation and increasing the production of healthy cells.

Folate or folic acid is found in dark green leafy vegetables. Besides, it is also found in bananas, lemons, melons, dried fruits and seeds.

Who needs folate?

Folate is essential for the development of children, infants and young adults, as well as pregnant women.

At the same time, research has shown that older people should eat less of this vitamin because eating less can be the reason for such people’s longevity.
