IRGC commander Maj Gen Abbas Nilforoushan’s funeral held in Tehran
A large number of Iranians attended funerals of Major General Abbas Nilforoushan, a senior Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) commander who was assassinated last month along with the Hezbollah chief in an Israeli airstrike on Lebanon.
The ceremony took place today in Tehran’s iconic Imam Hussein Square as mourners carried Nilforoushan’s coffin draped with the national Iranian flag.
Gen Nilforoushan was pronounced martyred in the Israeli attack, which targeted a number of residential buildings located in Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahiyeh on Sept 27.
Nilforoushan was assassinated along with Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
The Iranian commander’s body was taken from Beirut to city of Karbala, where a large crowd attended his funeral, including representatives of Iraqi political groups.
Gen Nilforoushan’s funeral prayers were led by a representative of Iraq’s top cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.
Another funeral procession was held in Najaf that houses the holy shrine of Imam Ali (A.S).
