Pakistan ranked third-worst country for law and order

26 October, 2024 18:43

Pakistan has made a slight improvement in its rule of law ranking, moving up to 129th out of 142 countries, according to the World Justice Project’s annual Rule of Law Index.

This ranking evaluates eight key factors, including government power constraints, corruption absence, open government, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, civil justice, and criminal justice.

The report highlights Pakistan’s struggles with order and security, ranking 140th out of 142 countries.

The country faces significant challenges in controlling crime, protecting against armed conflict, and resolving conflicts without violence. Only Mali and Nigeria ranked lower in this category.

However, Pakistan performed better in other areas, such as constraints on government power (103rd), open government (106th), and criminal justice (98th).

Pakistan, along with Afghanistan, ranked at the bottom among six South Asian countries in terms of rule of law. This underscores the need for regional cooperation and reforms to strengthen the judicial system.

The World Justice Project’s report also reveals a concerning trend: the rule of law has declined globally for the seventh consecutive year.

More than half of the surveyed countries experienced a weakening of their rule of law.
