Mastermind of attack on Chinese engineers near Karachi airport arrested

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar has said that the mastermind of suicide attack on Chinese engineers near Karachi Airport and four suspects, including a woman, a rickshaw driver and a bank employee, have been arrested.

While holding a press conference in Karachi along with Sindh IG Ghulam Nabi Memon, the home minister gave a briefing about the suicide attack on the Chinese convoy at Karachi Airport. He said that three people including 2 Chinese engineers were killed while 11 were injured in the attack. The banned organization BLA accepted the responsibility of the attack.

He said that the name of the suicide bomber was Shah Fahad. As soon as he pulled the handbrake, the car exploded. The bomber’s torso and one hand remained while the rest of the body was destroyed. He was identified by the fingerprint of his hand. The suicide bomber and two facilitators were also identified from the CCTV and the chassis of the vehicle used in the attack was also found at the scene, he added.

Lanjar further said that the car used in the attack was bought from a showroom for Rs7.1 million and the money was transferred to the bank from the Hub area. The money was transferred from the bank account of Faisal Ali.

He added that the facilitators of the suicide bomber also came to light.  Two people including a bank employee named Bilal were involved in financing the terrorists.

He said that the vehicle went beyond the Hub where explosives were fitted. Explosives included RDX and paint, weighing 30 to 40 kilograms.

The Sindh minister said that the terrorists made the woman sit in the car to avoid checking. With the help of the woman named Gul Nisa, the terrorists entered the city with a car full of gunpowder.
