Netanyahu offers $5 million reward for captives freed from Gaza

20 November, 2024 11:54

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced a reward of $5 million for each captive released from Gaza.

He also announced those that help free Israelis held by Hamas will be provided a way out of the war-torn Palestinian territory.

The Israeli prime minister announced the rewards during his brief visit to Gaza. During the visit, he was shown the Israeli military’s Netzarim Corridor, which is a key access road and buffer zone built by Israel’s army to dissect northern Gaza from the southern part.

Netanyahu announced: “To those who want to leave this entanglement, I say whoever brings us a hostage, will find a safe way out for himself and his family. We will also give $5m for every hostage.”

He added: “The choice is yours but the result will be the same: We will bring them all back.”

According to Israeli estimates, 101 captives are still in Gaza, though around one-third of that number are now believed to have died.

The Israeli prime minister’s reward offer comes as protests continue in Tel Aviv by families of captives and their supporters. They are demanding Netanyahu to reach a ceasefire deal with Hamas that would see their loved ones freed.
