Feature that warns against suspicious calls introduced
Telecommunication service provider O2 has introduced an artificial intelligence-based feature that will alert users to suspicious calls.
The British company said the new Call Defense feature uses adaptive AI to analyze the behavior of a calling number to determine whether it is a valid call or a spam call.
If the call meets all the spam criteria according to the feature, an alert will appear on the user’s phone screen. However, they will have the option to pick up the call or not.
The technology to identify suspicious calls was created by security firm Hiya.
Earlier this month, the company introduced a new AI-driven system that uses a human-like ‘Granny’ character, named Daisy, to engage fraudsters on the phone in real time.
Daisy is designed to keep scammers occupied, preventing them from reaching real customers for as long as possible. The AI has already succeeded in wasting hundreds of hours of scammers’ time while exposing common fraudulent tactics, helping customers better protect themselves against scams.
In addition to this, O2 recently began rolling out a caller identification feature that gives customers more confidence in identifying who is calling them. This service, known as Brand ID, provides details about the organization making the call, allowing users to verify the caller before answering.
