Eight injured in attack on Israeli bus in West Bank

29 November, 2024 21:04

A gunman opened fire on an Israeli bus near the Jewish settlement of Ariel in the occupied West Bank on Friday, injuring at least eight people, according to the Israeli military and emergency services.

The Magen David Adom (MDA) medical service reported that four people were wounded by gunshots, with three in serious condition, while four others sustained injuries from flying glass. The identity of the attacker has not been released by authorities.

This incident is part of a broader surge in violence across the West Bank since the onset of the Hamas-Israel conflict in Gaza in October 2023.

Earlier, it emerged that after agreeing a ceasefire deal in  Lebanon, Hamas is now looking for truce in  Gaza, a senior official in the Palestinian group said.

“We have informed mediators in Egypt, Qatar and Turkey that Hamas is ready for a ceasefire agreement and a serious deal to exchange prisoners,” the official told AFP

A ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon took effect on Wednesday after an over a year-long battle resulting in thousands of people deaths.

The truce came into effect at 4:00 am (0200 GMT) to halt a war that has forced hundreds of thousands in Lebanon and tens of thousands of people in Israel to flee their homes.

“With the entry into force of the ceasefire agreement and based on its provisions, the IDF remains deployed in its positions inside southern Lebanon,” army spokesman Avichay Adraee said in a post on X.
