Telegram rolls out third-party verification
Telegram has rolled out a new third-party account verification system as part of its latest app update. The company announced in a blog post that the idea is to allow public figures or firms, which are already verified by Telegram in turn verify others, for instance employees in the organization.
Telegram wrote that this decentralized forum for additional verification will help prevent reduce misinformation and scams— with a unique proactive solution that sets a new safety standard for social platforms.
Groups or individuals, which want to be able to verify others must already have an official bot verified by Telegram.
If that happens, they may apply to become a third-party verifier on Telegram. They’re also needed to have a unique icon, which will appear next of the names of accounts they verify.
The company said that any accounts verified in this way will have that logo next to their name, adding that opening their profile will show a detailed explanation of that status and what it means.
The firm stressed that this type of verification is fully separate from its internal verification, and provided more details in a guide.
