Punjab government officially rolled out its electric bus service in Lahore on Wednesday. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the pilot project, which will initially operate on a route stretching from Railway Station to Green Town. With fares set at an affordable Rs20, the service aims to provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly commuting option for residents.
Key Features and Announcements:
- Expansion Plans: The government plans to introduce 500 additional electric buses by August and extend the Metro Bus Service to Faisalabad and Gujranwala in the next fiscal year.
- Enhanced Passenger Comfort: To improve the commuting experience, mist fans will be installed at e-bus stations, while the buses will be equipped with Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, and mobile charging ports.
- Future Projects: The Chief Minister also unveiled plans for Pakistan’s first tram system, connecting Thokar Niaz Beg to Harbanspura, and an underground transport system in Punjab.
