The long-awaited rain and snowfall have finally arrived across various regions of Pakistan, bringing a welcomed shift in weather conditions. The rain is expected to continue for the next 24 hours.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department reported that Peshawar recorded the highest rainfall at 35mm, while snowfall is expected to persist in higher regions, particularly in Murree.

On Thursday morning, Islamabad and Rawalpindi experienced heavy showers. Over the past 12 hours, Islamabad recorded 22mm of rain, while Rawalpindi saw 20mm.

Numerous areas in Punjab, including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sharqpur Sharif, Kasur, Raiwind, Ferozewala, Patoki, Pakpattan, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Kamoki, Sargodha, Sahiwal, and Sialkot, also witnessed consistent rainfall.

The latest weather data reveals substantial rainfall across various regions, with Peshawar recording 35mm, Lower Dir 27mm, Mardan 25mm, Faisalabad 18mm, and Lahore 8mm. Additionally, Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal each received 17mm of rain, while Murree saw 5mm of rain along with one inch of snowfall.

Travel warnings have been issued due to the likelihood of slippery roads, particularly in Haveli, Bagh, and Poonch, which may disrupt traffic flow.

Avalanche risks have risen in Azad Kashmir, and landslides are expected in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and mountainous regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Balochistan, most districts will experience cold and dry weather, while Sindh is expected to remain mostly dry.

In light of the severe weather, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has confirmed that salt is being spread on the roads in Murree to prevent accidents.

Punjab’s Relief Commissioner, Nabil Javed, has instructed the Murree administration to remain on high alert. Authorities are urging citizens to take necessary precautions and avoid unnecessary travel.
