BBC News suspended in this country
The Azerbaijan’s government has suspended British broadcaster BBC News, but a journalist will be allowed to continue working in the country.
Azerbaijan’s foreign ministry has ordered the closure of local BBC News broadcasts, but there has been no clarity on the decision.
The foreign ministry said that Baku takes into account the principle of mutual cooperation in all decisions and relations with foreign media.
The BBC said in a statement that after verbal orders from Azerbaijan’s foreign ministry, we were hesitant to stop broadcasting, but we deeply regret such drastic measures against free press because we will not be able to report events from Azerbaijan to our viewers abroad.
“We are seeking further clarification from the Azerbaijani authorities.
The BBC‘s broadcasting in Azerbaijan started in 1994 and on an average, the number of viewers reaches one million in a week.
