Pope Francis’ health improves; removed from ventilator

03 March, 2025 16:45

Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of Catholic Christians, is improving, and he no longer needs a ventilator.

According to the Vatican, the 88-year-old pope is still on oxygen therapy but is stable.

Pope Francis was admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on February 14, where he was suffering from severe respiratory illness and other complications. The Vatican’s latest statement said the pope no longer needed “non-invasive mechanical ventilation” and was feeling better without fever.

According to officials, Pope Francis’s health is still critical and doctors have described his condition as “serious but stable”. On Sunday, the pope met with two top Vatican officials, Cardinal Pietro Parolin and his deputy, but details of the meeting were not released.

A Vatican official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the pope was eating normal food and could walk into his hospital room.

Pope Francis expressed his gratitude in a written message to the public on Sunday. He wrote: “I thank you all for all the prayers.

According to doctors, Pope was suffering from double pneumonia, which is a serious condition in which both lungs are affected. However, doctors have instructed him to take more precautions and continue treatment.

This is one of Pope Francis’ longest public absences, as he has not been seen in public for the past 17 days. It is unclear when his treatment will be completed and when he will be able to return to the Vatican.
