Atta Tarar Says PTI Will Not Be Allowed to Disrupt Peace in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar has said the government will not allow Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to disrupt law and order in Islamabad, amid the party’s plans for political activity in the capital.

Speaking about PTI’s proposed protest, Tarar said the government would take measures to prevent any situation that could threaten public order.

He said PTI should reconsider its approach and warned that the government would respond if the party attempted to create a law-and-order situation.

Tarar also addressed the recent detention of Imran Khan’s sisters, saying authorities had received information that they could contribute to a disruption of public order.

Recent reporting confirms that Aleema Khan and two other sisters of Imran Khan were detained ahead of PTI’s planned September 27 protest, with Aleema’s detention ordered under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order law.

Tarar Questions PTI Leadership

The information minister also questioned who has the authority to make decisions within PTI.

He said Barrister Gohar Khan did not have sufficient influence within the party and questioned the basis for holding negotiations with individuals whom he said lacked decision-making authority.

Tarar further said the government did not consider negotiations justified under the current circumstances, citing concerns over PTI’s previous positions and statements.

PTI, meanwhile, has continued to demand the release of Imran Khan and has maintained its plan for political mobilisation, including a proposed march toward Islamabad.
