18 March, 2025 18:28

The Parliamentary Committee on National Security, in an in-camera session on Tuesday, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to combating terrorism with full force.

The meeting, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, ISI Director General Lieutenant General Asim Malik, chief ministers, and senior officials.

The military leadership briefed the lawmakers on the current security situation, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The committee strongly condemned recent terrorist attacks and expressed solidarity with affected families.

The session called for an immediate and comprehensive implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) and Operation Azm-e-Istehkam to dismantle terrorist networks and counter their logistical and financial support.

Participants also voiced concerns over the use of social media by terrorist groups and urged the development of strategies to curb digital extremism.

The meeting reaffirmed support for Pakistan’s armed forces and security agencies, acknowledging their sacrifices. It also expressed regret over the absence of some opposition members and emphasized the need for political consensus.

The session follows recent terrorist attacks, including the Balochistan Liberation Army’s assault on a train in Bolan district, which resulted in significant casualties.

Additionally, Pakistan has been ranked the second-most affected country by terrorism in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with a 45% rise in terrorism-related deaths over the past year.
