Suicide blast reported at Lakpass near Quetta
A suicide bomber reportedly tried to target a Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) rally at the Lak Pass near Quetta, Police said Saturday.
Police reported that the explosion did not result in any casualties. An investigation is underway into the incident.
According to AAJ News, suicide bomber was apparently targeting Akhtar Mengal’s BNP and its allies, who were staging a sit-in near Lakpass.
However, as he tried to approach them, his vest exploded in the hilly terrain before reaching the target.
The body parts of the bomber were scattered at the scene, as investigators were collecting them for forensic analysis to determine the identity of the bomber, official said.
According to officials, volunteers stationed near the protest site intercepted a suspicious individual. Upon being stopped for a search, the suspect detonated explosives.
The nature of the blast and the extent of the damage are being assessed.
Lakpass is located around 35 kilometers south of Quetta city.
