How to Calculate your April Electricity bills after Big Relief in Power Tariff

03 April, 2025 18:06

Pakistan just got some much-needed good news about electricity bills. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a big drop in power prices on Thursday, cutting rates by Rs7.59 per unit for factories and Rs7.41 for homes.

This means families using 200 units monthly could save over Rs2,200 starting next month, while small factories using 3,000 units might save nearly Rs54,000.

“This is our Eid gift to the people,” Sharif said, explaining how his team convinced the IMF to approve the cuts after tough talks. He also promised to crack down on power thieves costing the country billions.

But there’s a catch – these new rates don’t include taxes. Your bill will still have extra charges like GST, fuel adjustments, and TV fees. For example, a home using 500 units will pay around Rs18,820 before taxes instead of Rs24,350.

The move comes after weeks of protests over high bills and aims to help both households sweating through summer heat and factories struggling to compete. Many hope this relief lasts longer than the last price hike.
