Wheat prices decrease in Punjab as new crop arrives
The price of wheat in Punjab has decreased sharply after the new crop from Sindh found its way into the market as per media reports. The price of 40 kilogram of wheat has fallen from Rs 2,865 to Rs 2,460 in the last few days, a total drop of Rs 400.
The decrease is mainly on the back of a new wheat crop from Sindh, while the new wheat crop from Punjab is expected in the market next month.
The decline in wheat prices is also affecting the price of flour. The price of a 20-kg flour bag has decreased by Rs100 and is currently selling for between Rs1,450 and Rs1,500. This may decrease more as the wheat crop in Punjab will be available in markets soon. Expectations are for wheat to be priced at Rs2,200 to Rs2,300 for 40 kg in markets in Punjab.
At the same time, uncertainty is troubling farmers in Pakistan awaiting confirmation of official wheat prices for the 2025 harvest season.
The uncertainty has created apprehension among farmers regarding the sale of their crops. Farmers are imploring the government to establish support prices for wheat this season to help cover their expenses.
Farmers are apprehensive about incurring losses if the government does not specify the prices, telling reporters that it will be impossible to offset costs if the price is not established.
