Punjab school likely to declare early summer vacations due to heatwave

09 April, 2025 19:18

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has recommended early summer vacations for schools due to the ongoing heatwave in Pakistan.

This recommendation was made to the Department of School Education, Department of Higher Education, and others, to protect children from the severe heat.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia conveyed several precautions for schools to adhere to. All students should have unlimited access to a cool drinking water source. Students should also wear lightweight clothing.

Outdoor activities should stop immediately in heat wave conditions. Schools should have appropriate air flows in their classrooms and ensure that air conditioning units and fans are in good working condition.

Additionally, the PDMA recommended setting up first aid stations with trained staff to assist students in case of heat-related issues. Schools are also advised to stay in constant contact with District Disaster Management Authorities to receive updates and communicate relevant information.

These steps are aimed at protecting students from the intense heat while maintaining a safe and comfortable environment. The government’s goal is to ensure the safety and well-being of students during this challenging weather period.
