WhatsApp Down: Several users unable to send messages

12 April, 2025 17:41

Saturday turned into a digital headache for many WhatsApp users as the Meta-owned platform stumbled yet again, leaving people locked out of chats, stuck with failed status uploads, and scrambling to figure out what went wrong.

By 5:22 PM, outage tracker DownDetector had logged nearly 600 complaints, with a whopping 85% of users unable to send messages—whether in private chats or groups. Others faced app glitches (12%) or login troubles (3%). Social media quickly lit up with frustration, reviving the hashtag #Whatsappdown as memes and angry tweets piled up. “Trying to send a WhatsApp message today,” joked one user alongside a GIF of a crumbling building.

This isn’t the first time the app has gone rogue this year. Just over a month ago, in late February, a massive global outage left millions unable to send messages, use WhatsApp Web, or make calls. This weekend’s hiccup, while less severe, reignited fears about the app’s reliability—especially for those relying on it for work, family updates, or urgent communication.

To add salt to the wound, India faced a parallel crisis as UPI transactions sputtered across platforms like PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) blamed “intermittent technical issues” for partial declines, leaving users stranded at checkout counters and street vendors.
